The default settings for these calendar are set up so that you receive an alert whenever there is an upcoming event on your calendar. But these alerts can interrupt you while you are using your device and if you have the same calendar synced on an iPad and an iPhone, you might find it unnecessary to also receive alerts on the iPad.
